The Federal Government has given a very strong indication that the Trauma Centre now under construction at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital would be completed and put to use in 2013.

Minister of information, Mr. Labaran Maku said “this is in view of the importance of the centre to health care delivery especially in trauma cases which had led to the death of many Nigerians”. Mr. Maku stated this when he led two other ministers, human rights activist and over a hundred journalists from national and international media on a visit to the trauma centre as part of the Federal Government tour of its on-going projects across the country. The information Minister said the Trauma Centre was very dear to the Government given the number of deaths recorded from trauma due to insufficient facilities for the treatment of curable ailments arising from it. In the words of Mr. Labaran Maku: “It is an important project. Trauma is what is killing many Nigerians because of road traffic accidents and disasters. So, we need a place like this where we can save the victims”.

Mr. Maku commended the management of the hospital for the quality work done so far and the transparent manner it had been executed.
