The Program Director, United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Nigeria, Dr. Daniel Duvall says the centre’s collaboration with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital is targeted at making the hospital a model in disease prevention and control in Nigeria.

Dr. Duvall stated this when he led a team of the centre from Atlanta to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. He said the process would involve the promotion of hand hygiene which has become a policy in the hospital and prompt disposal of harzadous wates. Also speaking, an Epidemiologist, Paul Malpiedi from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta said he was glad to be representing the Centre in the collaboration and promised to deliver on the mandate of the centre.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Professor Bissallah Ekele who was represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, said the Management was excited about the collaboration and pledged the commitment of the Management for the success of the project.

The team, made up of the Programme Coordinator, Nigeria Infection Prevention and Control, Dr. Tochi Okeke was conducted round the hospital by the Chairman of the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Disease Control Committee, Dr. Yunusa Thairu.
