The Registrar, Health information Officers’ Registration Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim has commended the Management of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for the computerization of its Health Information Department.
Alhaji Ibrahim gave the commendation when he led members of the Council on a visit to the hospital. He said the Council was particularly happy over the development and also commended the team spirit among professionals in hospital. The Registrar appealed to the Chief Medical Director to consider establishing a School of Health Information to cater for the needs of Health Information Officers in the northern part of the country.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Bissallah Ekele said the Management remained committed to making health care delivery to clients as humane as possible. He said the computerization of the Health Information management Department was part of Management’s effort at ensuring that clients waiting time in the hospital was drastically reduced. Professor Ekele charged staff of the department to rise to the challenge of computerization as more services in the hospital would soon be computerized. On the establishment of a School of Health Information Management, the Chief Medical Director said this would depend on the availability of funds.
The Registrar and members of the Council were conducted round the Department of Health Information Management by the Head of the Department, Mrs. Veronica Umoh.
