A former head, Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Dr. Muhyi Abubakar has been described as a good planner, teacher, father and a principled man who is selfless in service to humanity. These were the attributes by Speakers at a valedictory session in honour of Dr. Abubakar who retired recently from the services of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital as Consultant Surgeon, Orthopaedic and Trauma.
The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Professor Bissallah Ekele described Dr. Abubakar as a hardworking and reliable staff who gave so much of his time to the system and humanity. He said Dr. Abubakar would be greatly missed not only by the Management of the hospital but also by those whose lives he had touched. While wishing Dr. Abubakar peaceful retirement, the Chief Medical Director, charged staff of the department not to allow the skills he impacted on them to be lost on the sand of time.
Also speaking, the Head of Department of Surgery, Professor James Chinda said by his close relationship with Dr. Abubakar, he knew him as a man who had long prepared for his retirement which was inevitable in public service. Earlier, the Head of Department of Orthopeadic and Trauma, Dr. Tom Sough said Dr. Abubakar was instrumental to the many successes so far recorded in the department.
Responding, Dr. Muhyi Abubakar thanked all for the encomium which he said, had given him the opportunity to reflect on his past. He called on the Management of the hospital to, as a matter of urgency, promote departmental yearly review which he said would reveal strengths and weaknesses, as well as promote the growth and development of the hospital. Dr. Abubakar appealed to his colleagues to always work as a team and co-operate with the leadership for the attainment of the vision and mission statements of the hospital.
